Llandegla Review

Llandegla, or Coed Llandegla, to be precise is a dedicated mountain bike track in North Wales.

The trail is set in forest and has a range of mountain biking trails suitable for all types of MTB’ers from beginners and family groups to routes for more experienced bikers. The trails are marked along skiing markings, ie. green for beginners, blue for newbies or those just wanting a decent introduction to mountain biking, red for those wanting a good ride but not too technical, and finally black or those who want the full works.

All the trails are kept within the forest, and with no main roads to cross, Llandegla is a great place to just get on with it and not worry about what’s coming in the opposite direction, ‘cos there isn’t anything!

The car park costs just a few quid for half a day or just £4 for a full day. There is a fantastic Cafe that rightly boasts the best breakfasts and bacon butties in Wales – I’d actually say the best in the UK personally.

Llandegla is located 7 miles from Wrexham and 14 miles from Chester, and as such is very easy to get to from both the M6 and the M56.

The site is open 7 days a week, and bike hire is available for those wanting to see what all this mountain bike stuff is about.

Bike Florida 2011 Florida’s Eden

Planning for the 18th annual Bike Florida spring tour is underway and it appears that this year’s tour will be nothing short of spectacular. Their staff has developed a wonderful route that will combine the city feeling of Gainesville with the natural beauty that surrounds it.

The ride is being called Florida’s Eden for the natural beauties cyclists will be exposed to along the way. Riders will depart from Gainesville on March 26 and return on the first of April, after a week of 30-70 mile daily rides, with short, medium, and long route options available. Bike Florida looks to maintain the consistency of excellence they have provided in years past. While on the tour riders will have the pleasure of stopping in some of Florida’s lovely yet least publicized cities: High Springs, Newberry and historic Micanopy. Each city has a unique feeling and sense of self pride which can only be felt once arriving.

High Springs highlights the most important resource available, water, which has been extensively studied by the late Wes Skiles diving in the area’s world famous springs! In Newberry participants can try their luck on an Olympic regulation archery field or engage in a number of physical activities at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex. Cyclists are in for a real treat as they enter America’s quintessential historic community, home to the fictional Dr. Benjamin Stone, of Micanopy, from the movie “Doc Hollywood.”

This unique route that takes you through the hidden treasures of Florida’s quaint towns and historic hamlets, turquoise springs and rivers, rich forests and rolling pastures covered with wildflowers, truly gives riders an experience of Florida’s Eden.

“For those who can not attend the entire week, we offer two 3 day packages” says Ride Director Rachel Weissler. The Gainesville Getaway option allows riders to begin the tour on Saturday, the 26th of March, and experience all the wonderful attractions in Gainesville, home of the Florida Gators. Participants can also choose the High Springs Holiday which is ideal for those who want to cycle as well as experience the natural waters along the way.

“The ride is geared for all level of cyclists, so whether you are an avid cyclist or a first timer this ride will be fun” says Rachel. Buckle that helmet and be prepared to see Florida in a way that many people are unaware exists.

Evans Cycles

Evans Cycles is probably the best known bike shop in the UK. They sell pretty much everything for bikes and bikers, including mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX bikes, bike parts, cycle clothing, shoes and loads of other stuff.

Evans Cycles has a long history in the bike world and is constantly expanding. Their first bike shop was in SE London around 1925. The shop won a cycle award in its first few years and has built upon that reputation ever since. Joseph Smith, purchased the company in the 1950s and managed it for 20 years before handing it over to his son, Gary Smith, in the 1970s. In the 1990s, Evans Cycles innovated with a mail order catalogue to deliver their bikes to a wider audience. What more do you need to know? Go get the voucher.
